Easter snack for kids

Easter is almost upon us, eggs are getting ready to be painted and hidden and Easter baskets are being dusted off ready for the annual egg hunt. By now, I am sure the kids have dyed, painted, added sequins to and drawn on many boxes of real eggs and you will have various egg shaped cut-outs of different shapes and sizes serving as decorations all around your home.

So how about enjoying some edible family fun, creating some fun Easter snacks that your kids will actually want to eat. We’ve made sure to include a few healthy treats too but if there is anytime of the year when we can indulge our kids (and ourselves) in a choc-fest, it’s at Easter when it’s time to go big or go home, when it comes to your sweet tooth!

Read on as we round up our top 10 Eggtastic Easter snacks for kids.

1. Breakfast Bunny Pancakes

These have to be the most adorable Easter breakfast treats and a great way to kick start the day in an egg-stra special way with these cure little bunny pancakes. All you need is pancake mix, fruits or chocolate chips, marshmallows for the bunny’s tail and a great imagination!

2. Carrot Patch Brownies

Easter Carrot Patch Brownies

This Easter treat is guaranteed to keep busy little hands occupied, with the added bonus of kids being able to proudly display their creations on the Easter table and enjoy them after! You can also ask them to create their own shopping list, calculate the cost and help with measuring out the ingredients. You can make many variations of these but the basics are chocolate brownie mix, crushed oreo cookies for the dirt, strawberries, white chocolate and orange food colouring for dipping the strawberries and creating carrots and whatever mini eggs or small decorations you may have lying around the house to create your Easter masterpiece!

3. Easter Bunny Oreo Pops

Kids love Oreo cookies so they’re definitely going to enjoy these fun Easter Bunny Oreo Pops! You only need a few ingredients from Oreo cookies, candy melts or white chocolate and food colouring, a few candies to decorate the faces and some lolly sticks and ribbon. You just dip the Oreos in the melted chocolate or candy melt and allow them to harden in the fridge before decorating. Then you can let your imagination run wild and decorate these festive snacks however you like!

4. Rice Krispie Nests

Easy to make with breakfast cereal rice krispies, melted white or dark chocolate to bind the nests together and whatever Easter treats you want to surprise the kids with. Mix the krispies together with the white chocolate, mould into shapes using a muffin tin or cup cake cases and chill in the fridge. Add some candy eggs, mini marshmallow rabbits, chocolate chicks and voila!

6. Easter Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Easter Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Chocolate dipped strawberries are a hit with the kids anytime of the year but when they are made to look like Easter carrots, there is something egg-stra special about them. Easy to make with fresh strawberries, white chocolate for dipping, a little orange food colouring. If you want to get extra creative you can make a crushed oreo dirt base for your carrot strawberries. However you decide to enjoy them, your kids will surely love it.

7. Easter Egg Fruit Pizza

Easter Egg Fruit Pizza

A healthy option for a sweet Easter treat is this Easter Egg fruit pizza! You can make this in two ways, with the traditional pizza pastry dough base or a meringue base. We’ve tried both versions and can’t decide on our favourite. You can add a little brown sugar to the pastry base or/and add a layer of chocolate spread before the fruits (not as healthy but it is Easter after all!) Alternatively you can add a layer of fresh whipped cream on top of the meringue base and then add whatever fruits your kids love best. This year we are trying to make a chick hatching out of an egg in fruits, watch this space!

8. Carrot Patch Popcorn

Easter Carrot Patch Popcorn

This is a great party snack or favor that is easy to make and the kids love getting involved. Top tip is to sprinkle a little orange food colouring on the popcorn seeds before you pop them. Get the kids to scoop the popcorn into bags and then tie the top with ribbons or pipe cleaners to create giant carrot goodie bags. You can add green strips of paper for extra effect if you’re feeling egg-stra creative!

9. Pretzel Nests

Easter Pretzel Nests

This is a similar version to the rice krispie nests but gives kids that extra bunny crunch!

Easy to make with a few bags of pretzels broken into small pieces, dark or milk chocolate to bind the nests together and whatever Easter treats you want to surprise the kids with. Mix the pretzels together with the chocolate, mould into shapes using a muffin tin or cup cake cases and chill in the fridge. Add some candy eggs, mini marshmallow rabbits, chocolate chicks and voila!

10. Babybel Bunnies

Easter Babybel Bunnies

For the only savory addition in our top ten, we are going crazy for the Easter ideas at blessedbeyondcrazy.com including these adorable Babybel bunnies. You will need Babybel cheese, carrots, celery, chocolate chips and candy hearts. Slice the carrots into strips and shape them to make your bunny years and noses, long and thin or short and stubby, the kids can create their own individual bunnies. Now you need to push the carrot strips into the top of the head and gently push the little noses into the centre of the faces. For the eyes its easier to take a small toothpick and make holes where you want to insert the chocolate chip eyes, remember to point the chips downwards so they fit into the holes easily. For the bunny’s mouth and whiskers you can use thin pieces of celery for the whiskers and small candy hearts for the mouth or even pipe them on with coloured icing.

We managed to find a way to even upgrade the cheese to include chocolate!
